Gibsons Council to pass on concerns from cell tower opponents, but can’t veto plan

Opposition has popped up over plans by Rogers for a new cell tower in Gibsons.

The company wants to put the tower on an industrial lot on Payne Road, but a delegation from the nearby Parkland subdivision was at Tuesday night’s Council meeting with a petition against the plan.

They say they weren’t properly notified, and were misled about the tower’s size and location.

They want the Town to reject the tower, like it did with an earlier proposal to put it at the fire hall.

But Mayor Wayne Rowe says the Town doesn’t have that authority.

Council did agree to forward the petition to Rogers and Industry Canada.
