Truth and Reconciliation events offer chance to highlight day scholars case

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission presented its report on Tuesday, with some 94 recommendations aimed at governments, public institutions and others.

There were also lots of reminders that much work remains.

The Sechelt and T’Kemlups First Nations, for example, are still fighting for recognition and compensation for the Residential School day scholars.

Sechelt’s Garry Feschuk spoke about that effort at one of the Commission events in Ottawa leading up to the report’s release.

A judge is deciding whether to certify a class action lawsuit for day scholars.  That decision is expected in the fall.
