VIU’s Doug White says Truth and Reconciliation report means the hard work is just beginning.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is getting ready to release a 300 page summary of its final report tomorrow. The Commission is wrapping up its work with a series of events in Ottawa.

Chair Murray Sinclair says Canadians can’t let discomfort with the past keep them from the truth about the dark history of residential schools.

And Doug White, the Director of Vancouver Island University’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation, says people also need to remember it’s not all in the past.

There are also unresolved claims. The Sechelt and T’Kemlups First Nations are suing the government over compensation for “day scholars” at the Residential Schools.  Sechelt Councillor Garry Feschuk is among those in Ottawa this week to witness the TRC events.
