Hotel developer requesting more time

The Chinese company behind a proposal to build a 21-storey hotel beside the Vancouver Island Conference Centre is asking for more time.

SSS Manhao wants council to extend the option to purchase agreement for the property at 100 Gordon Street by one year.

Nanaimo’s Real Estate Manager Bill Corsan says the current agreement expires at the end of the month.

Corsan says SSS Manhao sent the City a letter saying they’ve had some challenges recently but they are committed to the project.

If Council agrees, the company would have until May 30th of next year to complete the foundation for the conference centre hotel.
