The region’s two major Friday farmers markets have started their seasons.

Craig Evans is with Nanaimo’s Bastion Waterfront Farmers Market.  He says they’re embracing new rules allowing beer, wine and spirits.

Manager Celia Robben of the Gibsons Public Market says craft beer was a big draw last year, and this year they’re adding a winery and distillery.

Both markets are also changing their hours for this season.

The Gibsons market is running from 1:30 to 6pm, and the Bastion Waterfront market is going from 2pm to 6pm, every Friday into October.
