The Sunshine Coast Community Foundation is putting 23-thousand dollars into a BCIT student project.
The students are part of the Sustainable Business Leadership program, and they’ll be doing a feasibility study on something known as a “community resource cooperative”. Basically, bringing together community groups in a formal organization for a particular goal.
Sechelt has agreed to manage the money from the Foundation
And Mayor Bruce Milne says they’re glad to be on board, because it’s going to produce a last benefit.
Right now it looks like the study will focus on food production and security, but Milne says Sunshine Coast governments will be able to apply the model to other economic development projects down the road
