City urged to start following SDWC advice right away

City Council’s rep on Nanaimo’s South Downtown Waterfront Committee says the next few months will be crucial.

Council got a look last night at the Committee’s vision and principles for the future development of the Wellcox Rail Yard property.    It’s meant to guide what happens on the land over decades.

But Councillor Fred Pattje says the City has to start following the advice right away, as work starts on a transit hub, and possibly a terminal for a fast ferry service.

Councillors are now asking the Committee to go out to share its report with the Regional District of Nanaimo, the Nanaimo Port Authority and Snuneymuxw First Nation.

They also want the Committee involved in planning the transit hub with the RDN, which runs the bus system and will eventually own that part of the property.
