Coastal Fire Centre says danger rating is moderate

BC is experiencing its first major wildfire of the season. A 2500 hectare wildfire burning 50 kilometers southwest of Prince George has prompted evacuations.

It also has people here wondering about the fire risk as we head into the start of the camping season.

Marg Drysdale with the Coastal Fire Centre says, for most of the Island and Sunshine Coast, the danger rating is moderate right now.

Drysdale says we’ve had a few fires already in the Island Coastal zone, but nothing as serious as the blaze in Prince George.

Drysdale says they don’t foresee any move to campfire or other burning bans just yet, but they’re reminding people to follow the same precautions as they would when the risks are higher.
