VIU's latest reconciliation event to reach national audience

VIU says it’s going to reach a nation-wide audience with its latest reconciliation event.

Wednesday’s Kanata Conversation event will focus on how indigenous peoples are represented in the media.  VIU started the series last spring with the City and the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

Dan Hurley, executive director of university relations, says the theme ties back to what inspired the series in the first place; a community response to a racist letter published in a local paper.

Hurley says the free event at the Shaw Auditorium will be moderated by Shawn Atleo, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and webcast around the country.  They’ll even be taking questions and feed back via the web.

The doors open at 5:30 and the event runs from 6:30-8:30
