SD 68 Board says it’s working to address CUPE concerns over cuts

The Chair of the Nanaimo Ladysmith School Board says they’re doing what they can to reduce the impact of looming cuts on CUPE members.
CUPE Local 606 raised concerns about a plan to cut 23 janitors and 11 field facilities workers over 2 years, and members rallied outside the Board’s business committee meeting on Tuesday

After the rally, the Board agreed to keep looking for other options… those discussions continued Wednesday night.
Board Chair Steve Rae says chronic under-funding is forcing their hand.
Rae says the proposed plan at this point is to cut 3.7 per cent of SD68 CUPE workers over 2 years.

SD68’s budget still hasn’t been finalized.  School boards across BC have until June 30th to submit budgets
