Ladysmith tax hike not as hefty as feared

The Town of Ladysmith is on the verge of finalizing this year’s budget.

Mayor Aaron Stone says Council could approve the spending and taxation plan on Monday.

He says taxes will be going up, however, not as much as the first draft of the budget at the end of March was calling for, with an overall increase of 5.5 per cent.

The residential increase works out to just over 6 per cent.

Stone says a tax bump will be needed for fire hall upgrades, economic development in downtown, tourism, projects with First Nations and improvements to the waterfront area.
