Nanaimo given until Tuesday to show province details of third option on Colliery Dams

Nanaimo City Council has voted unanimously to ask the province to amend its order on the Colliery Dams.

That decision Wednesday followed a meeting with the Dam Safety Branch.

Councillor Jim Kipp says it seems like the province is at least interested in hearing more about a third option he proposed at a recent Committee of the Whole meeting.

Kipp says that third option involves reinforcing the top and sides of the lower dam, which could be less costly and less invasive.

But the province wants to see details by Tuesday.
