The Town of Gibsons is eager for the opening of the new Sea to Sky Marine Trail, but it’s also causing a bit of a dilemma.
The Marine Trail is a route for kayakers and canoers, and the idea is to attract paddlers interested in multi-day trips.
Tuesday night Council wrestled with allowing Trail paddlers to camp on Town land, at least for a six month trial period. Mayor Wayne Rowe is a bit uncertain.
Other Councillors, like Jeremy Valeriote, say the Town should actively promote B&Bs or other options, suggesting they might welcome the amenities after a few days in the rough.
In the end Council approved designating “put in” spots, and installing information signs, but decided not to set a camping policy for now.
The thought is to wait and see what actually happens once the Marine Trail officially opens in June.
