Report of an active shooter at Drinkwater Elementary was a hoax

North Cowichan – Duncan RCMP are now saying a report of an active shooter at Drinkwater Elementary in North Cowichan was a hoax.

They had the school on lockdown this afternoon and RCMP members went room to room looking for anything suspicious.

There were no students in the school when the call came in because there was an early-dismissal.

Corporal Krista Hobday says the call was computer-generated, so it could have come from anywhere.

Hobday says the investigation is continuing but the building has been given the all-clear.
