BC’s NDP MPs want Coast Guard cuts reversed

In light of last week’s bunker oil spill in English bay, NDP MPs are demanding the Harper government reverse cuts to BC’s Coast Guard services.

A dozen MPs, including Nanaimo – Cowichan’s Jean Crowder, are calling for immediate action from the Prime Minister (see their letter, here)

Crowder says they want the government to do three things.

Crowder says the Conservatives need to make protecting Canada’s coastlines a priority.

The NDP has also launched an online petition to ramp up the public pressure.

The Coast Guard has continued to defend its response to the English Bay spill, saying having the Kitsilano station open wouldn’t have made any difference.
