New marine tourism website launching soon

Marina operators and others interested in attracting visiting boaters are getting ready to make a splashy new pitch.

The website Ahoy BC will launch next week.

David Mailloux of the Nanaimo Port Authority is one of the people behind the project. He says the name isn’t just a catchy nautical reference.

It’s estimated that marine tourism is worth about $200 million a year, and Mailloux says they hope to expand the boating season, and draw more boaters to northern and remote areas.

Ahoy BC is getting money from companies in the sector, as well as organizations like Destination BC and the Island Coastal Economic Trust.
