Province investing $1.3 million to keep out invasive mussels

The provincial government wants to make sure BC lakes remain free from invasive mussels including zebra and quagga mussels.

The province is investing $1.3 million in an effort to keep out the invasive fresh-water mussels, which have taken over the Great Lakes. They were also recently found in Lake Winnipeg.

Gail Wallin is the Executive Director of the Invasive Species Council of BC. She says they’re helping to get the word out about invasive mussels.

Wallin says the province is investing in mandatory boat inspections, especially along high-risk borders where boats will be coming into the province.
