Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club wants property tax exemption

The Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club is looking for a tax break.

The Club is run by a non-profit society and pays about $27,000 a year in property taxes.

Officials with the society made the case for an exemption to the Sunshine Coast Regional District last week.

Andy Cotnam from the society says the SCRD should look at golf the way it does other recreation activities it supports.

Cotnam also says the golf club meets the requirements for an exemption under the Rural Tax Act, and similar exemptions have been granted to more than two dozen other golf clubs in BC.
