Nanaimo RCMP investigating Northfield Esso robbery

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for information about a robbery at a gas station. The Northfield Esso, at 2300 Northfield Rd, was robbed on Tuesday, January 21. A man wearing a black ski mask, grey sweatshirt and grey sweatpants walked in around 5:15am. He’s described as 5 ft 10 with a medium build. He demanded that the clerk hand over the cash from the till. He alluded to having a weapon in his pocket. After getting the cash, he ran out of the store.

RCMP officers arrived within minutes and tried to secure the area, however they believe the suspect took off in a waiting vehicle. Police dogs tracked the man to the Mountain Vista area, where the track ended. Investigators are reviewing video surveillance and are asking the public for their help.

“It appears a vehicle was involved and it may have been parked nearby, possibly in an odd location. We need to hear from anyone who was in that area at that time of day,” said Constable Gary O’Brien.

If you have any information on this crime, please call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
