The Gibsons Chamber of Commerce says the Provincial Nominee Program for immigrants is attracting a lot of Chinese people interested in investing in the town.
Through the PNP people with money to invest can qualify to immigrate under a special category.
In its quarterly report for Town Council the Chamber says they’ve been getting a steady stream of inquiries, including two PNP investors finishing up deals to buy local businesses.
Dean Walford is the Chamber president.
Walford says the immigrant investors are acting to fill a need identified a few years ago; many Sunshine Coast business owners ready to retire have been finding it difficult to get someone to take over their companies.
