Nanaimo's new Culture and Heritage Department gets down to work

Nanaimo’s new Culture and Heritage Department is hitting the ground running.

Created during last year’s streamlining of the administration at City Hall, it brings together responsibilities that had been scattered through various departments.

Suzanne Samborski is the Senior Manager. She says job one is getting the “Cultural Plan” in place

Culture and Heritage is holding the first of two open houses on the Plan January 22nd at the Port Place Mall from 10:30am to 1pm.

They’re planning a similar open house Saturday the 25th from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Port Theatre lobby, to coincide with a Vancouver Island Symphony concert.

And next Wednesday (the 29th) they’re holding a meet and greet at the Art Gallery on Commercial Street to give people a chance to get to know the staff of the new department and their goals for the next couple of years.   It runs from 3:30pm to 6pm.
