Chamber wants to know if Nanaimo's ready to let the food trucks roll

Nanaimo’s Chamber of Commerce is wondering why Nanaimo isn’t following the lead of communities like Duncan and Parksville by allowing food trucks.

Chamber CEO Kim Smythe says fears they take business away from regular restaurants have proven false as the industry has grown in other cities.

He says Nanaimo could start by allowing food trucks in popular seasonal spots like Maffeo Sutton Park, Westwood Lake and Departure Bay.

Smythe says he’s gathering comments and letters of support from the community, to help make a case for Nanaimo to put food trucks on the menu.
