After 3 years of planning, a new market will be opening this spring in Nanaimo. The Island Roots Market Co-operative has finally secured a location on Townsite Road, and on Tuesday, January 21, the market is hosting an open house for vendors and shoppers alike.
President of the Co-operative, Larry Whaley, says their goal all along has been to provide farmers, artisans and consumers a place to sell and buy locally made products year-round. He says they’re hoping to get input tonight on the layout, the range of products people would like to see available, and the best days of the week to open for business.
Whaley says the Island Roots Market Co-operative open house is from 4:00pm-8:00pm at 625 Townsite Road. The Market will be opening at the end of April. At this point they’re planning to be open five days a week.
