End of the line for Sechelt Innovations Limited

The new Sechelt Council has voted to wind-down one of the previous administration’s most high profile projects.
The business development corporation Sechelt Innovations Limited is being given 30 days to wrap up its operations.
The Council says the decision reflects the fiscal realities facing the District, which has put around $600,000 into SIL since it’s creation.  Much of the money come from the profits of the District’s other solely owned company, Sechelt Community Projects (operators of the Community Forest).
Mayor Bruce Milne says the District is going to be taking a more regional approach to economic development, and he’s expressing thanks to the current and former SIL Board members, volunteers, supporters and staff.
Chair Hammy McClymont says he’s disappointed the current mayor and council never took the group up on offers to sit down and discuss its future before making their decision.
