The MP for Nanaimo-Cowichan says the federal government’s new anti-terrorism bill will put Canadian’s freedoms in jeopardy.
Jean Crowder says Bill C-51 would give the Canadian Security Intelligence Service sweeping new powers, with very little oversight.
Crowder says CSIS has enough power as it is, and Canada’s current criminal code is already sufficient when it comes to dealing with terrorism threats. She also worries the vague wording in the bill could lead to average Canadians being targeted.
Crowder says the definition of “disruption” in Bill C-51 is far too broad.
Crowder says there hasn’t been adequate time to debate the bill. The Liberals say they’ll support C-51, if there are some changes. But the Green Party says it needs so many that it should just be scrapped.
