Nanaimo SPCA getting funding from province to build new shelter

The BC SPCA says Nanaimo is first on their list for a new shelter, and a $5 million boost from the province means it’s closer to becoming a reality.

The budget tabled yesterday includes money to support the BC SPCA’s $50.4 million Facilities Plan. Executive Director Craig Daniel says they are going to replace or renovate 10 shelters across the province in the next eight years.

Daniel says they’ve been quietly fundraising for a while to support the project in Nanaimo. Shelters in Surrey and Kelowna will also be upgraded during the first phase of the SPCA’s Facilities Plan.
