Evacuation order lifted after gas leak in north Nanaimo

Residents in a north Nanaimo neighbourhood have been allowed to return home after a gas leak forced an evacuation.

Nanaimo RCMP were warning residents to stay away from the Waterbury Rd area in the north end because of a gas leak. Sergeant Sheryl Armstrong says a car crashed into a house at 6221 Waterbury Rd and hit the gas meter.

Six homes in the area were evacuated but all the residents have since been allowed to return home. Armstong says their investigation is continuing.
