Island Health says it has launched a new system that will send an automated notice to your family doctor any time you’re admitted to, or discharged from a hospital. It will also notify doctors if one of their patients dies in hospital.
The health authority says the idea has already been a success in Victoria, where more than 80 per cent of the doctors involved found it helped them provide better care.
Island Health also says improved information sharing will strengthen partnerships between hospitals and doctors in private practice. The electronic notification system now covers all 13 hospitals on the Island.
