Organizers planning to build on success of ferry cut protests

Crowds running from a hundred to a thousand joined ferry-cut protests on the Sunshine Coast, Gabriola Island and Powell River.

Organizers of the January 18th demonstrations are claiming success, and say they got the attention of decision makers in Victoria.  They also say more action is coming.

Jef Keighley is with the BC Ferry Coalition.  He says they’ll be getting together with other groups to organize more protests and they’re waiting to see what’s in the not-yet-released report on the last “Coastal Ferries Engagement”.

Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair Garry Nohr says coastal RD Chairs are planning to keep up the pressure, but they’re also waiting to see what’s in that report.

Stephanie Clarke of the two year-old group FerryHostage.com says it’s time for people to hit the BC Ferries bottom line by not buying any food on board Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
