"Weeds" chain getting frosty reception in Sechelt

The District of Sechelt is planning to stand back and the let the RCMP deal with a marijuana dispensary that wants to open downtown.

The store is going to be part of the “Weeds” chain, which currently operates in Vancouver where police have taken a live and let be attitude toward dispensaries.  Weeds was founded by 63 year-old Donald Briere, a man who used to be heavily involved in BC’s clandestine marijuana industry and served jail time for running illegal grow ops.

At this point the company, which has started setting up in a vacant storefront on Wharf, doesn’t have a business license.

But Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne says Sunshine Coast RCMP have made their position clear and the District will support it.

Milne says as Sechelt deals with the emerging issue they’ll likely look to what’s being done in similar communities instead of turning to Vancouver for an example.
