Nanaimo Youth Services Association gets $25,000 award to help end youth homelessness

An organization in Nanaimo is getting a major boost from the Home Depot Canada Foundation to help end youth homelessness. The Nanaimo Youth Services Association is one of four organizations receiving a $25,000 Orange Door Award.

CEO Steve Arnett says part of the money will go towards studying how to better prevent youth homelessness in Nanaimo.

Arnett says the rest of the money will go towards improving life for young residents living at the Rowe House, which opened in October of 2013. It provides affordable housing for youth at risk of ending up on the street.

Arnett says they’ll also be able to offer Rowe House residents some money for groceries and personal items when they first move in.
