Ladysmith considering restricting access to parks at night

Ladysmith is considering a bylaw to keep people out of public parks at night.

Mayor Aaron Stone says Transfer Beach Park is already closed after hours, to help prevent vandalism and provide some enforcement options.

Stone says they’ve tried installing more lighting in public parks, but it doesn’t quite do the trick. He says they’re looking at the idea of a community-wide bylaw restricting access after-hours.

The idea has been referred back to staff, who will draft up a report on some potential bylaw options. It will come back to Ladysmith Council for consideration in a few weeks.
