Oceanside RCMP say a Qualicum Beach man was found dead inside a motor home on Dogleg Close.
Just after 9:30am, they responded to a report of a man with a firearm who was threatening to hurt himself. Oceanside RCMP Cpl Jesse Foreman says they brought in the Island District RCMP Emergency Response Team for backup and evacuated one person from the property.
Around 11:30am, they heard a single gunshot from inside a motor home. The Emergency Response Team entered and found a man in his 80s dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No shots were fired by police.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC has been notified because police were there when the man died, but the BC Coroners Service is taking the lead in the investigation.
