An 18-year-old girl from Parksville was killed in a crash on Hwy 19.
It happened at 9:50am on Sunday in the southbound lanes of the highway, just past exit 51. RCMP Cpl. Michael Elston says a 17-year-old girl driving a blue Dodge pickup truck lost control of her vehicle while passing a car.
Elston says the truck collided with a large highway sign and rolled several times. The driver was able to get out and call for help, but the 18-year old passenger, who was the girl’s best friend, died in the vehicle.
The driver and passenger in the other car suffered minor injuries and were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
Elston says it’s possible charges could be recommended, but the investigation by Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services is still underway. He’s asking any witnesses who haven’t talked to police yet to call him at (250) 954-2951.
