Nanaimo Council to consider study of affordable housing project for aboriginal students

Nanaimo City Council is being asked to look at building affordable housing geared towards aboriginal students on a City-owned lot.

The starting point would be a feasibility study for 1406 Bowen Road, in partnership with the Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre and BC Housing.

Councillor Bill Bestwick says there’s certainly a need.

Bestwick says the study would consider all the logistics, including who would operate it and how, and whether there’s enough community support.

It’s hoped if Council gives the OK, the study would be complete by mid April.
