Lost Canadians say feds response to petition disappointing, but not surprising

A Gibsons man who’s been fighting for the rights of so-called “Lost Canadians” says he’s disappointed, but not surprised, by the Harper government’s response to a petition.

It asked the government to acknowledge Canadians who died in the First and Second World Wars were legally Canadian citizens.

The government is sticking to its view that Citizenship didn’t exist until it was created by a 1947 law.

Don Chapman says that makes a hypocrite out of the Prime Minister.

Chapman says the issue is key to the case of a Lower Mainland woman, Jackie Scott, which is expected to go before a judge in the coming weeks.
