FedEx switching from ferries to flying to serve the Island

FedEx is going to start flying packages to Nanaimo instead of putting its trucks on BC Ferries.

The move is one of several changes to its operation in western Canada announced Thursday.  The delivery company calls it a “major initiative to enhance service on Vancouver Island”.

President Lisa Lisson also says the area is “…an important regional business hub, with a strong small business sector and a growing high-tech industry… The introduction of a daily FedEx Express flight to Nanaimo illustrates our commitment to this region and our ongoing determination of maintaining our competitive advantage for our customers.”

The the daily cargo flights to and from Nanaimo Airport will start in February.  FedEx says the biggest benefit for its customers will be extended pick-up and drop-off windows in places like Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Campbell River, Courtenay, Comox, and Sooke.
