WFP's Ladysmith mill reopens after slow market forces shutdown over Christmas

Good news for the 85 Western Forest Products employees left hanging after the Ladysmith sawmill shut down in early December.

WFP’s Amy Spencer says they’re back at work today and the mill is up and running.

Spencer says it’s still a tough market for lumber, but WFP worked hard to bring in some new orders from Chinese customers.

The shut down at Ladysmith was billed as “indefinite”, but the company also closed its Nanaimo mill permanently last month. Spencer says all the workers affected by that shutdown either moved over to WFP’s mills at Duke Point and Saltair sawmill, or retired.
