SCRD, VCH looking to cooperate on making the community healthier

The Sunshine Coast Regional District is looking to set up a Healthy Communities Collaboration Agreement with Vancouver Coastal Health.

The agreement would set out some broad goals in areas where local governments could make a difference in people’s health.

And VCH’s Claire Gram briefed SCRD Directors on the idea recently, saying the latest research shows there are a lot of those areas.

Gram says a couple of things at the top of the list are tobacco use bylaws and creating “active” transportation networks that encourage walking or cycling.

VCH and the SCRD hope to finalize the agreement by March.
