Fuller looking to start Council, public thinking about future of VICC

First term Nanaimo Councillor Gord Fuller is hoping to start a discussion around the future of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

The city-subsidized venue is run by a private firm under a contract that ends in 2017.

Fuller told fellow Councillors this week he’s working on a motion that would call for the City to seek “non binding expressions of interest” on everything from selling the VICC to leasing parts of it to various groups or making other changes to how it’s owned, funded and managed.

The VICC has been operating in the red since it first opened in 2008.
