Island Ferries looks to renegotiate deal with City as wait for federal funding continues

Island Ferry Services says it’s still hoping 2015 will be the year they launch passenger service between Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver.

Director David Marshall says the terminal space lease signed with the City of Nanaimo sets March 31st as a deadline to start the service, but the company is still waiting on funding to come together.

Marshall says if it gets approved, the money from the federal Building Canada fund would provide 25 per cent of  what they need, and they have an investor ready to kick in the rest.  He also says company has “a Plan B and a Plan C” waiting in the wings, if needed.
