Get your Chistmas tree chipped for a good cause

If you’re looking to get rid of your Christmas tree this weekend in Nanaimo you have a couple options.

Nanaimo Search and Rescue will be chipping trees in the parking lot at Country Club Mall on Saturday from 11:00am-3:00pm. Nanaimo SAR President Rob Christopher says it’s by donation.

Christopher says they can also arrange to pick up your tree for a donation if you can’t make it. You can send an email to [email protected] or 250-390-4241.

Meanwhile, The Nanaimo branch of the SPCA will also be chipping trees at Brooks Landing Mall on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am-3:00pm. Executive Director Leon Davis says all the money raised will stay in Nanaimo to support the shelter.

On the Sunshine Coast, the Sechelt Fire Department will be chipping trees on Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm in front of the fire station. Fire Chief Bill Higgs says Christmas trees become a fire hazard when they start to dry out.

Higgs says they’ll be accepting donations to support the fight against muscular dystrophy and to support bursaries for local students.
