Search continues for several bird species in Nanaimo

The Christmas Bird Count is over in Nanaimo but organizers are still asking people to be on the lookout for a couple key species. Coordinator Rhys Harrison says volunteers spotted 111 species on Sunday, and they can add to that up until midnight on Dec 31st.

Harrison says there were a couple of what they call “big misses” on count day, and there’s still time to add them to the list.

Harrison says they’re still on the lookout for the following species:

Brant Goose
Cackling Goose
American Black Duck
Ruddy Duck
Ring-necked Pheasant
Ruffed Grouse
Sooty Grouse
Red-throated Loon
American Bittern
Golden Eagle

California Gull
Western Gull
Northern Pygmy-Owl
Short-eared Owl
Northern Saw-whet Owl
Hutton’s Vireo
Townsend’s Solitaire
Townsend’s Warbler
Pine Grosbeak
American Goldfinch

If you spot any of these bird species, call Rhys Harrison at 250-248-5305 or send him an email: [email protected]
