SCRD enters budget debates hoping for more public participation

Sunshine Coast Regional District Directors are getting ready for their 2014 budget debates, and they’re hoping to hear from the public a lot more than they have in past years.

SCRD Chair Garry Nohr says this is going to be one of the toughest budgets in years, with spending decisions needed on a lot of long range plans, like parks and recreation and transit, and they need to know what people’s priorities are

The first round of budget debates starts next Monday, but SCRD finance department staff are going to be setting up at a couple of shopping malls on Friday, January 17th: Trail Bay in Sechelt from 10am to Noon and Sunnycrest in Gibsons from 2pm to 4pm.

The SCRD is also encouraging people to come out to the budget meetings and post questions and suggestions on their website, scrd.ca or send them via Twitter to @SunshineCoastRD.
