Two people are in the running to replace outgoing director Lee Turnbull in the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s Area F (West Howe Sound).
Ian Winn and Ron Girard both say they’re concerned about the “re-industrialization” of the Sound through projects like the Woodfibre LNG terminal, or a garbage incinerator at Port Mellon.
Girard says he brings solid experience in local government from his time as a Gibsons Councillor.
Winn’s experience comes from working in tourism and with several community groups.
Both men also say Area F’s Director faces a unique challenge; representing Islanders at the SCRD and working with the Islands Trustees. The Islands Trust reps for the Gambier area were both acclaimed: Dan Rogers, and Kate-Louise Stamford.
Area F is one of just three SCRD seats that will be decided by election this year. The others are Areas D and E.
