Horgan set to announce cabinet July 18th

Premier-designate John Horgan will be determining who will sit in B.C. cabinet positions over the next week.
A B.C. cabinet is usually 16 to 20 people.
He is set to announce his cabinet on July 18th.
However, the NDP have indicated they may add some portfolios including one on women’s equality and mental health, and they may break up key issues like housing affordability and public transit into smaller more specific portfolios.
Besides the cabinet there are some other key positions including caucus whip, caucus chair and house leader.

Horgan will have to consider skill sets, gender, ethnicity, experience and geographic location of ridings, to try and balance out his top posts.

Veterans like Adrian Dix and Shane Simpson are likely picks in a cabinet that could have several members from Vancouver but there is no shortage of experienced MLAs from which to choose from.
John Horgan, who was loyal to Carole James during her run for the leadership of the party, resulted a bit of an internal NDP fight in 2010.
The NDP members who did not want to see James get the leadership post included Nanaimo’s Leonard Krog, Nanaimo/North Cowichan’s Doug Routley and Powell River Sunshine Coast’s Nicholas Simons.
Carole James is now Horgan’s top advisor.
