Police arrest a man following violent home invasion

RCMP, with help from from Victoria and West Shore police, have arrested a Victoria man following a violent home invasion that happened in Nanaimo more than a week ago.
The information about the home invasion was not released to the public because, RCMP say, it was not a random event, the suspect and victims were known to police and had ties to criminal activity.
Police allege back on April 20th, 33 year old Ashley Baird forcibly entered a home in the 700 block of Haliburton Street, waved around a shotgun, tied up the residents and then assaulted and threatened them.
At the time of Baird’s arrest police say he was in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, suspected heroin/fentanyl and an imitation BB handgun.

During a search of his home police found a shotgun and zap straps, both believed to have been used during the home invasion
