Province reviews its Jobs Plan

The premier says, although the BC Jobs Plan has been a success, there remains some challenges, specifically in rural economies.
Christy Clark says rural economies and natural resource industries have been the backbone of our economy but are shouldering the risk posed by the global downturn in commodity prices.
She says the challenges require a thoughtful response and so the Province is establishing a Rural Development Strategy that will support B.C.’s rural communities through policy and investment initiatives…..
The effort will be led by Donna Barnett, Minister of State for Rural Economic Development and Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.
Also, a new network is being set up to connect post-secondary institutions with innovation-driven industries.
U-B-C President Santa Ono has been appointed as the Chief Advisor on the project by the Premier.
Ono says B-C is already a world leader in many areas and this new network will help to ensure post-secondary and industry are working together.
According to the 2025 Labour Market Outlook, jobs in information techonology are expected to be among the top career opportunities in B-C.
