Fisheries and Oceans Canada are in the middle of their proactive campaign called Ask A Fishery Officer.
Benjamin Rahier, a Fishery Officer based out of the Sunshine Coast says it is essential for people to check with a fisheries office before going out to harvest shellfish on an open beach.
Rahier says the peak season for salmon fishers on the Sunshine Coast is right now.
He wants to remind people who want to fish for salmon must use barbless hooks.
