Sunshine Coast RCMP move on local marijuana dispensary

As Nanaimo cannabis dispensaries await the RCMP’s next move after “cease and desist” letters earlier this month, the outspoken owners of a Sunshine Coast dispensary say they were shut down by RCMP on the weekend.

Michelle Sikora of S & M Medicinal Sweet Shoppe took to social media with news of the raid.  And she and husband Doug say they suspect a connection between the recent pressure on dispensaries, and the rise of large-scale commercial medical marijuana growers.

Sikora says RCMP confiscated their products, phone, computer and a van emblazoned with their logo.

RCMP released a statement Monday morning saying;

“The RCMP targeted this operation for two reasons. First, the business was operating out of a house in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Police received complaints from numerous neighbours relating to the increased traffic to and from the residence, and about the prominent advertising displayed in their yard. Second, it was alleged the dispensary did not require buyers to have a medicinal marihuana (sic) licence or any medical documentation showing that they required cannabis for a medical purpose. Moreover they also offered internet ordering and delivery options, meaning anyone could go online and order marihuana-infused products to be delivered to their door.”

The Sikoras say they’re getting in touch with lawyers and rallying support, and one of their first moves will be trying to get the van back.  It’s the only vehicle that can accommodate Doug, who’s disabled, and his therapy dog.
